About Us

At Foundations Counselling, we believe meaningful change begins with feeling heard, understood, and supported. Based in Cochrane and serving individuals and couples throughout the surrounding areas, we provide compassionate, professional counselling for those navigating life’s challenges, including relationship concerns, anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and major life transitions. Our approach is grounded in evidence-based therapy, genuine connection, and respect for each person’s unique story—creating a safe, collaborative space where healing, growth, and resilience can take root.

Tim Sawatsky

Tim Sawatsky is experienced guiding individuals and families through life’s challenges. As a Master Practitioner in Clinical Counselling (MPCC) – Provisional with the CPCA, and a Diploma in Applied Psychology and Counselling Specializing in Professional Counselling, he is committed to delivering comprehensive counselling services tailored for adults and couples. His expertise encompasses a broad spectrum of concerns, including relationship difficulties, domestic violence , grief, anxiety, and depression.

Tim provides tailored services for adults and couples, with expertise spanning relationship difficulties, life transitions, grief, anxiety, domestic violence, trauma-informed care and depression. His attachment theory, strengths-based and person-centred approach is dynamic and personalized, drawing from cognitive-behavioural, interpersonal, and solution-focused therapies to meet each client’s unique needs. With a background in pastoral care, he can also offer discussions on faith and spirituality in his counselling sessions.

Melissa Sawatsky

Melissa is a Master Practitioner in Clinical Counselling (MPCC) – Provisional, with the Canadian Professional Counsellors Association and holds a diploma in Applied Psychology and Counselling Specializing in Professional Counselling. She brings experience having worked in Churches, marketplace and Non-profit organizations where she has not only cared for and supported individuals but led and built teams that supported healthy relational dynamics. Melissa has 30+ years of experience in facilitating training and teaching adults in leadership, biblical application and spiritual freedom.

Melissa has also been working with Right Hand Support, a non-profit, for 2 years working alongside the team to provide individual counselling to those who have experienced trauma as an adult or during their childhood. Melissa’s approach to counselling is person-centered and she works to hear what clients are saying and collaborates with them on goals they want to achieve through their time in therapy. She also draws on psychodynamic styles in helping people to address and understand their family of origin in order to see patterns and behaviours that can be holding people back. Melissa is trained in grief counselling, depression and anxiety, dealing with life transitions, marriage and pre-marriage, domestic violence, and trauma-informed care. Her style is hopeful and accepting of people’s experiences.
